What is “Indie Harp?”
I’m glad you asked. Eryn coined the term so that people would ask. Due to the traditionally classical nature of the harp, she noticed any time she would mention that she was a harpist, she was categorized as Pretty Background Music, or if she was lucky, Celtic Music. Trying to break in to the live music scene in Nashville, TN was difficult due to this stereotype - harps were for orchestras, guitars were for bars. Dubbing her style “Indie Harp” allowed for the questions to be posed, giving her the opportunity to explain the harp’s versatility and her own folk/indie/blues style.
(Let’s be clear: the talent and commitment that goes into classically-trained harp music is undoubtedly highly valuable and remarkable. Eryn does not wish to belittle that aspect of the harp world in any way. Her personal style and preference is just more toward the contemporary, and she enjoys pushing the boundaries)
Below you’ll find Eryn’s two previously-released albums, “At Rest” and “Trail Of White.” “At Rest” is all instrumental harp and was recorded in Eryn’s home during spring break as a freshman in college with help from her guitar teacher Holden Bare. This was intended for use in therapeutic settings and as soothing, worshipful background music. “Trail Of White” was Eryn’s first main recording project with her original music, and displays some of the soul and versatility harp music can create. Trail Of White - 2017
"Trail Of White" is primarily comprised of original songs by Eryn; the exceptions are the first track "West Winds," a song written by her father David Jones, and "Hallelujah," the famed song by Leonard Cohen and Eryn's most-requested song at live events.
Eryn recorded lead vocals and most of her own harmonies, and played all instruments other than percussion for the recording of the album (harp, guitar, piano, keyboard, cello, hammered dulcimer, and harmonica). Her father David Jones joins her on the first track "West Winds," an original song by himself and a favorite of Eryn's growing up. William Johnson Garcia recorded all tracks and performs percussion and background vocals on "Hallelujah," joined by Joe Keen and Eryn's husband Jadie Fuson.
"Trail Of White" can be heard on Spotify and purchased on iTunes.
At Rest - 2009
“At Rest” is an instrumental harp album of traditional Celtic, hymns, and an original tune by Eryn. Popular as soothing background music, creating a meditative atmosphere, or as a lullaby soundtrack for the kids, you can find Eryn's classic instrumental harp album "At Rest" on iTunes.
